I learned to read from my Dad before I entered public education and loved books of all kinds. Libraries are magical places. I didn’t like school, but it was better than being in a umm…unhealthy household.
I barely graduated high school and decided not to pursue university. But, my Dad gave me a couple of books on psychology and philosophy which led me to Zen/Taoism (very open-ended and non-dogmatic philosophies) and the realization that you can learn outside of institutions. I began reading in a lot of directions and have spent much of my life learning for the purpose of understanding and relating different subjects to each other and to life.
I never became wealthy nor held any high position but I would not give up my learning (my wealth) for anything.
