The ‘net, the poet, and the hook

Each poet will tell you
the nature of poetry

For some it is
to honor life and beauty

For some it is
a whip to drive the masses

And there are those who
speak of love or hate or fear

Yes. Yes these are true
But I am lazy

Like a fisherman
I would thread a word
onto a hook
toss it out
loving the experience
and try to reel in a soul.

Definitely “catch and release”

Today the sun is at its closest point to Earth (perihelion).
This reminded me of a piece of a poem by e.e. cummings

(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun’s birthday; this is the birth
day of life and of love and wings: and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)

Today, we have sun, after days of snow and storm. Though it is not warm yet, there are spots where the ground is showing. And the sky is New Mexico blue.

NOW it feels like a New Year.
