Poetry

I’m Not Bukowski

I’m not Bukowski
I could have been his neighbor

I’m not Shakespeare
I don’t have the right plumage

I’m not Basho
I no longer have the legs for narrow roads
Too much attachment, too little Zen

I’m not Blake
I can’t get that deep into that garden

I’m not Whitman
I would have shared the open road with him

I am a poet
I write the universe within me
I make new visions for your mind
Sometimes I will touch your soul
And I will expose myself
The good, the bad, and the ugly
I can only write who I am

Did you know that the word poet comes from the word for ‘maker’?
