On a Winters Day
Snow
COLD
I hate this weather
if it lasts more than a day
It’s been here for days
that feel like forever.
I feel for the birds
I toss extra seed
and watch
as they dig in the white fluff
or come to peck
at the suet.
juncos, thrashers, finches,
and the ubiquitous sparrows
a little vireo cheeps
a woodpecker taps
they would all be here if it was warmer.
We will make it through this
into sunnier days
past the dark whiteness
of the deserts’ winter.
